This year a selection of girls from 1st and 2nd year combined to form our first under-14 girls Gaelic Football team. The girls accepted an invitation from Loreto Foxrock to participate in their annual 1st and 2nd year football blitz. Here, the girls would face teams with much more experience than ourselves. After an understandably nervous start in their opening game and despite having zero past experience in playing GAA, the girls learned quickly, battled against the poor weather conditions, showed great determination and teamwork and displayed a real talent for the game by winning their remaining two matches in convincing fashion. By winning 2 out of their 3 games the girls finished runners up in their group, a magnificent achievement. Each player represented their school admirably and thoroughly enjoyed the outing with the camaraderie among the group a particular bonus. All are excited to continue learning the skills of the game more in the coming years and to take part in further tournaments in the colors of Cabinteely Community School. We look forward to welcoming even more team members in the future.
