The School Completion Programme.

Cabinteely Community School is one of seven schools belonging to the Cabinteely Area School Completion Programme and is one of 124 such programmes nationally.

The School Completion Programme is one strand of Tusla Education Support Services and as such is funded by TUSLA. The primary aim of the SCP is to ensure that young people complete their education. We do this by implementing supports which focus on improving their attendance, participation and retention rates. Our other partners in TESS are the Home School Community Liaison teachers and the Education Welfare officers. Together we support students who have been identified as needing significant support in relation to their engagement with school.

Many of the SCP supports are a collaborative effort between SCP staff and school staff and include;

  • Homework Support Programme
  • Female Empowerment Group
  • Health, Fitness and Fun
  • Induction programmes for incoming first year students
  • Young men’s adventure group

The SCP also collaborates with outside agencies to support young people. These include;

  • Festina Lente Equine Assisted Learning Programme
  • Meitheal
  • Springboard Family Support Unit
  • Monkstown Boxing Club
  • The Children & Young People’s Services Coordinator (CYPSC)
  • Community Development Projects

Students also receive significant support on a one to one basis through formal mentoring programmes and informally as required.

Secondary school can be a difficult time for young people but we believe that with the right support they will be able to successfully navigate their way through almost anything. We are of the firm belief that young people don’t need to change, they just need to grow and it is our responsibility to help create the context which makes that growth possible. The SCP provides support throughout the academic year and during school holidays .
